Effect of Alkanethiol Functionalization on Surface Reactivity in Catalytic Sensors

چکیده
Introduction The interaction of organic adsorbates is known to play a significant role in a large number of chemical reactions[1], yet the catalytic systems that exploit these effects on a fundamental level to improve selectivity are lacking. Alkanethiols represent a possible platform for the modification of catalytic surfaces through their ability to form well ordered monolayers on the surface of metals such as palladium[2]. We have modified the surface of a metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) hydrogen sensor with an alkanethiol self-assembled monolayer (SAM) to modify the surface environment to be highly selective toward the hydrogenation of an analyte of interest: acetylene.

Catalytic Effect of Metal Species on Enhancement of CO2 Gasification Reactivity of Biomass Char
In the Boudouard reaction, where CO2 is reacted with carbon (char) to produce CO, very high temperatures are required to shift the equilibrium towards CO production. This endothermic reaction is inherently slow and catalytic species are effective to speed up the reaction rate at temperatures below 900 °C. In this study, the catalytic effect of some alkali (K, Na), alkaline earth (Ca) and transi...

An insight into effect of surface functional groups on reactivity of Sphalerite (110) surface with Xanthate collector: a DFT study
The reactivity of the protonated and hydroxylated sphalerite (1 1 0) surface with xanthate was simulated using the density functional theory (DFT). The difference between the energy of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital of the sphalerite surface and the energy of the highest occupied molecular orbital of xanthate ( was used to compare the reaction capability of xanthate with fresh and fun...
متن کاملEffect of surface-functionalization of Na+-montmorillonite nanoclay using 3-aminopropyltrimethoxy silane on the mechanical properties of E-glass chopped strand mat/epoxy composites
In the present work, Na+-montmorillonite nanoclay (Na-MMT) was functionalized using 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (3-APTMS) as a coupling agent. The covalent functionalization of MMT was confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). In the specimen fabrication stage, 5 wt% of pristine MMT or silane-functionalized MMT (f-MMT) were incorporated into an epoxy system and the resulta...
متن کاملProbing the effect of surface chemistry on the electrical properties of ultrathin gold nanowire sensors.
Ultrathin metal nanowires are ultimately analytical tools that can be used to survey the interfacial properties of the functional groups of organic molecules immobilized on nanoelectrodes. The high ratio of surface to bulk atoms makes such ultrathin nanowires extremely electrically sensitive to adsorbates and their charge and/or polarity, although little is known about the nature of surface che...
